Heterosexual hypocrite
This comic, and the one below were part of a political brochure explaining the Christian case for Traditional Marriage: one man, one woman, for life. There were a lot of political types at the time arguing against Gay Marriage, but most often their arguments were superficial, or simply wrong. ("Gay Marriage is wrong because it's unnatural" Really? The same was once said about human flight - "it just ain't natural!" So this just ain't a great argument.) A Christian case for real Marriage needed to be made, and that included acknowledging that the current way heterosexuals were treating Marriage was hardly the way things were meant to be either.
If we reject God's standard for Marriage...
The argument for Traditional Marriage - one man, one woman, for life - comes down to this and only this: if we won't use God's standard for Marriage, soon enough we won't have any standard at all, as this comic illustrates. This comic and the one above were part of an article, and a political brochure in defense of Traditional Marriage called Four Stupid Arguments Against Gay Marriage... and One Good One.

Equal stuff or equal treatment
This is not a funny comic, but this is an important idea expressed succinctly (okay, not that succinctly, but you should have seen the original Hayek quote!). It was an illustration for another Human Rights article in Reformed Perspective and reinforced the thrust of the piece.
Another lesson on cartooning for those who don't know how to draw: This involved using a couple of stock images from my source of copyright free pics - the books in the background, and the professor. The original prof picture is the one in the middle. I then used Photoshop to cut off his right arm, copy his left arm, flip it, and then stitch it into place on this right side and... Viola! Two arms holding the book!

Tongue twister
I made this about a a radio, rather than TV news announcer, because:
1) all TV guys have great hair
2) I figure radio guys don't have to have great hair
3) I didn't know how to draw great hair
4) I did know how to draw a bald guy
So, again, cartooning is not always a matter of knowing how to draw really well, but can sometimes be a matter of knowing how to work with what you've got :)

human rights
This was an illustration for an article in Reformed Perspective about how the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) and its provincial counterparts are abusing religious freedoms. One of the more outrageous examples of this abuse involves a pastor, Stephen Boissoin, who was forbidden from talking about homosexuality. The Bible might make it clear this is a sinful lifestyle, but this Christian pastor was not allowed to say it! For more on this topic, and how to fight this abuse, see HumanRightsCommissions.ca.

Meals on Wheels
Okay, I admit, this comic might not meet the category of being called "Really Good." But if it isn't the greatest comic ever, it is a pretty good illustration - this originally appeared accompanying an article on retirement that suggested retired people volunteer with worthy groups like Meals on Wheels. You can find that article, by Rene Vermeulen, here.

The bakery's missing product
Here is another comic that was originally done for my dad, to be used in some bakery-related advertising. Normally his weekly ads for the bakery included some sort of story, and while they were very popular (he got a discount on his ads because they were more popular than some of the paper's columns) it was pretty hard coming up with a new story each week. So I gave him a break, for a few weeks, by creating some comics he could put in instead. In addition to the joke this one had the subliminal insertion of a couple of ads - hamburger and hotdog buns were on sale for only 99 cents that week!

Newton
I originally drew this as part of an advertisement for the bakery that my dad was helping out with. He did an ad each week, usually with some sort of story leading it off. I gave him a bit of a break from the weekly story-telling by making a few baking-related comics.

The Gideons
This was one of my first attempts at using clipart to make a cartoon. I have a license to use and adapt their images. I don't really know how to draw, so this seemed a great way to get around that troublesome problem, and still cartoon. Now that I've let you in on my little secret, it's pretty obvious this was altered, rather than drawn like this, right? I mean, where exactly did the blue suited guy's arm go?

In and Out
I originally made this one without a caption, but no one got the joke. But now it's become a bit too obvious to the point that everyone gets the joke, but no one thinks it's funny :)

The End is... when?
The "end-of-the-world sandwich-board" guy is a classic character featured in countless cartoons, by countless cartoonists. But I think I may still have managed to put an original spin on the end-of-the-world chap.

Abott and Costello, black and white
This is my proudest achievement, comic-wise. Where else have you ever seen a comic about the Y chromosome? This is adapted from Abbot and Costello's classic "Who's on first" routine which, if you've never seen it, you just have to check out. You can find it here.
